Basic Skills of Curriculum

Basic Skills of Curriculum

Have you noticed that some schools in our area have redefined their curriculums and added titles to their names?  They are no longer just “nursery schools”.  They are now “academies”, “prepatory schools”, or “day schools”.  The schools’ curriculums proudly included things such as skeletal systems of dinosaurs, the solar system, going green, a history of famous artists, communities around the world, and other impressive sounding topics.

One of the greatest compliments Bridges received was from a kindergarten teacher.  She said that she and many of her colleagues can pick out the children from our school.

They are well prepared in all necessary subject areas.  They understand the organization of a classroom.  They have good manners and are respectful.  They are willing to try even if they are unsure of how to. Bridges’ students are welcomed additions to their classrooms. Other students may be able to tell you about dinosaur bones, artists, or planets, but they are unskilled in tracing their names, coloring pictures or using scissors. Children who have been taught “how to learn” achieve higher skill levels and experience greater success than those who haven’t mastered these essential skills.

When the time arrives to select a school, please remember to choose what is important.

Outward images can be deceiving.  Don’t be fooled by outward appearances.  Mistakes can have long reaching effects.  Choose wisely as there is plenty of time to learn impressive content…as long as you were given the tools to do it.
