A Parent’s Prayer

It is the weekend before the new school year begins. Apprehension settles in your soul at the thought of leaving your child at nursery school. “Parent night went great. I loved the teachers and met some very nice people, yet there is an uneasiness that invades the quiet moments of my day.”

Perhaps this will help.

A Parent’s Prayer For Their Child’s New School Year

Dear God:
Bless this brand new backpack, filled as it is with survival gear for the year to come.
Bless the pristine paper, the uncreased folders and the pencils whose erasers have yet to be rubbed raw.
Bless the workbooks and the notebooks, the markers, both scented and not.
Bless the lunchbox which holds the napkin imprinted with a note and smiley face from me.
Bless all 84 crayons, each with its own contribution to make.
Bless the hands that will use these tools and the minds that will imagine
how.
Bless the hearts that will guide our children–and the pride in my own
as I watch the beginning of yet another milestone. Amen

As teachers we have the same feelings only we say a different prayer…

A Teacher’s Prayer

Enable me to teach with
wisdom
for I help to shape the mind.

Equip me to teach with
truth
for I help to shape the conscience.

Encourage me to teach with
vision
for I help to shape the future.

Empower me to teach with
love
for I help to shape a child.
